Every parent wishes to have a well-behaved and obedient child. The well-mannered children are loved by everyone. To teach manners and to inculcate good habits in the kids’ parents should start working on it as soon as they are born. It is easy to teach children in their toddler years as compared to other ages. The other reason to teach good habits at an early age is that the habits taught at an early age are never forgotten. If you are a parent to a toddler, then don’t miss this article. Given below are some of the habits that every parent should inculcate in their child to make him or her a responsible citizen:
1. Helping in House Chores
House chores are not only a habit, it is a necessity which must be performed by every single individual. Parents in order to make their kid a responsible person need to cultivate this habit at a very young age. To begin the training, you can ask a kid for his or her help while cleaning their room, ask them to set the plates on the table, to put dishes in the dishwasher, and many other such chores. To engage children in house chores gives them a small reward for completing the assigned task. Once the habit of performing the chores is generated in children it will last with them for their whole life.
Gardening is another very fun activity. Inform the kids about the importance of plants and trees. To build interest in plantation you need to ask your kids to help you in watering the plants, cutting the grass, moving the activities. Once a child starts to take interest in garden activities, assign him the task to water the plants in the morning or in evening. Don’t forget to leave your child unattended while watering plants as it can cause some troubles.
Reading is one of the habits that every person must possess. As soon as the baby turns six months old you should introduce him or her to books. Read any book to the toddler before the bed. This habit will help the toddler to increase the vocabulary bank, improve his reading skills, and learn spellings of many new things. Also, as we know that books are very good friends of us, this habit will help them in future too.
4. Playing with Toys and Avoiding Screens
Nowadays with the advancement of technology kids are more interested in tabs, phones, and television rather than in toys. For the safety of the eyes of your little one, do not give them any exposure to screens. Instead of technology, you should buy them cute toys. Take some time out of your busy schedule and play with your kids. The little your kids use technology and devices the healthier brain and eyes they would have.
5. Physical Exercises
Don’t make your child a couch potato. Other than giving them toys to play while staying indoors, take them to a garden daily to play some outdoor games. The habit of playing outdoor games is good for the health of kids. The outdoor games will act as physical exercise and will help to increase the stamina, to keep them active and fit, to purify their lungs etc. New parents are often worried that the child will get hurt even if they keep an eye on the kid, we will suggest them not to worry because cuts and bruises are a part of childhood.
Kids usually are very possessive regarding their toys, food, and stationary, which is not good at all. Generate the habit of sharing things in your toddler. Ask the siblings of the kid to share things with the little one and in return the little one will also share things with them. To encourage more, you can reward your child for sharing things with others.
7. To Say Magic Words
The child must have the habit to say the five magic words. These five words should be the one of the first words taught to a kid. Magic words will make them well behaved and well mannered. These five words are please, sorry, thank you, excuse me, pardon me. Use these words frequently with the toddler and they will learn them soon.
Children must be friendly enough to greet others. As soon as the baby is born parents start to greet him or her by saying hi, hello, good morning, good night etc. The more the greeting words you use with the baby the more friendly he or she will be. Asking the kid to say hi to others at a very young age will inculcate the habit of greeting in them.
Punctuality is another very necessary habit. To teach this habit make a timetable for your little ones and stick to it. After some days the child will learn to know what time is allocated for which activity, this will make him responsible. Punctuality will also help the kid to do more in less time and in future he will be able to compete with the challenges of practical life easily
10. Respecting the Elders
Respect for elders is something our society is lacking these days. Children should know how to behave with the elders. Teach your child to help the grandparents and to respect and love them. Instruct your child to help the elders even if they are strangers (Only when you are near). Teaching this to children is very important as many children nowadays have no respect for their elders.
11. Saving Electricity and Water
A responsible citizen cares for the resources, you should teach your child the importance of resources. Ask them to turn off the light as soon as they leave the room and to turn off the tap when they are done bathing and cleaning. Once the child will understand the significance of natural resources, they will care for them and will play their part to protect them.
